RoseReader - Database Reader
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To use RR as a database reader, you must first set the
configuration option under database to enable Database operation
and configure a path to use for database files. That's all that
is required. Simply press ALT-C once in RoseReader.
Everything 'looks' the same in the reader itself, except it keeps a
lot more mail around and will remember conference definitions by BBS
that have been received from different control.dat's. Thus, it is
advisable to select (in the OPTIONS section of the various RoseMail BBS
systems that you may call) the full control.dat ONCE so that your machine
has a record of all the conferences. After that, you can turn to a small
control.dat. You can also turn off the NDX (files as they are useless
in a QWK packet that is going into the database).
RoseNet and PCBoard:
In RoseReader, once you get to the conference selection screen,
you can press 'S' to set the Size information for a conference. Here, you set the maximum number
of messages, maximum number of days of messages and the maximum file
size (in K) for the current conference.
When you are reading mail, you can select to 'LOCK' a message by
pressing 'T' (Toggle lock status). If a message is locked, it will
_never_ be packed out. Note, this can cause a conference to exceed
the packing limits if all messages are locked and there are too many
(in K and/or numbers) messages in the conference.
In the conference, you can also press 'K' (KILL) to force a message
to be packed out.
Files:
When looking at the file listing, you can press 'D' to set the
database size. This will allow you to set the number of file entries,
days and total size of newfiles to keep.
Bulletins/News/Services/Magazines/User Stats:
All the lastest bulletins, news, services, magazines and user
statistics that is received in a packed will be kept for reference
purposes. These files are not packed, but will be replaced by
subsequent similar information.
